About Me
Hi there! My name is Jake Embry, otherwise known as KrushComics and this website serves as my own corner of the internet. You can find a little story about me, my thoughts on all things nerdy, and programming projects I am working on.
Hi there! As you can probably tell from above, my name is Jake Embry. Welcome to my website, krushcomics.com! This page is here to tell you a little about me: who I am, what matters to me, and why this site exists.
I’m 23, born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and I work as an IT Support Technician. I’m engaged to the love of my life, Camellia (that’s her in the picture above). We’ve been together three years going on four, and we’re getting married this December. It can’t come soon enough.
The idea for this website came from my love of all things nerdy. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with science fiction, fantasy, comic books, the whole nine yards. Growing up didn’t dim that love one bit. If anything, it’s only gotten stronger. I’m always watching the latest superhero movies and shows, reading tons of sci-fi and fantasy novels, playing all kinds of nerdy video games, and watching a lot of anime. Like any nerd, I have strong opinions about the things I love, and I want to share them. That’s how this site was born: a place to share my thoughts on the things I care about, and hopefully hear back from people who love them too.
That same love for fiction and stories is where the name KrushComics comes from. When I was a kid, my dream was to be a comic book author. Superheroes made me want to write my own stories and create my own heroes, so I started writing short stories and drawing the characters I had in my head. When I told my dad about this dream, he said that just like every other comic book company and universe, mine would need a name. That’s how KrushComics was born. The name had strength and power to it, and it stuck. It became my handle for almost everything online: gaming, forums, and eventually YouTube. I haven’t started posting there yet, but I plan to make videos about the things I love. I might bring my reviews to video, show off projects I’m building, or talk about my own characters and the stories I love.
This site is also where I’ll document the projects and research I’m working on. I love to learn. Whether it’s reading, studying, writing, or building, I’m always picking up new skills and finding ways to challenge my mind. There’s so much in this world I’m interested in and so much I want to create, and I want to keep a record of all of it here. On the Thoughts page, you’ll find my reviews of movies, shows, books, and games, along with my takes on ideas, real-world events, and anything else on my mind. The Projects page has short write-ups (that may grow longer) and links to my GitHub repos for what I’m working on. It’s also where I’ll share research papers and, someday, any books I write. Finally, the Security page has write-ups for CTFs, hacking labs, and home lab reports.
Why I Built KrushComics
As expressed above, this site is a passion project. I have had a love for programming for a few years now and this site was a way for me to learn web development. Without going fully in depth on the technical side, as you can find that on the "About Site" page (which goes into the tools used to build this, languages, packages, frameworks etc.), I started building this site from scratch without really ever even having written HTML, CSS or developed any kind of website or web app.I had experience with Python which is why I used Django (which made some of the development progress a bit easier) and learned everything from the ground up. Which has led to what we have now.
Currently there are three main sections on the site: Thoughts, Projects and Security. The Thoughts page is where I write my thoughts on anything nerd related. This can be reviews on new movies, shows or games. This can be thoughts on certain characters or tropes or genres. Or just anything I want to write. The projects page is where I will talk about programming projects I am working on, research papers and/or possibly a book that I want a write. There will be a status section, brief description, tools used, story behind it, and a link to the Github repo. Let me know if there is anything else you think the website could use.
