Inception: An Underwhelming Masterpiece

After thinking back on Inception, I don't like it as much. When I watched it I also felt this, but I think I was just in that post watch phase. I think Inception is lacking in weight. Firstly the characters. I think the team feels great, they have good chemistry, but no history. Tom Hardy and the other dude joke with each other a lot, but I dont know their names. Ellen page's character feels unnecessary. I think that the idea of the movie is cool, but to me it felt like the movie wanted it to be more complex than it is. There was nothing about Inception that I felt like I needed another watch to understand, it felt very simple. I think that the third dream is a layer too deep, it started to feel like a video game, and moreso I think that the setting was the real problem. I liked the idea that the dreams felt real to the person experiencing them, so he does not know they are dreams. The alpine infiltration mission felt too gamey and not believable enough for the person inside the dream. I also think the description of time did not play out the way they intended for me, the lower you are in a dream the more time is distorted, but they werent down there for a long time, they were down there for 20 minutes, which felt a little off. The music is good but I only remember the one line. Also the plot twist was mixed for me. I guessed that he used Inception on his wife from the beginning, now the details of it were definitely interesting and that being why she killed herself definitely landed for me, but the rest felt way too predictable. I think the movie was a lot of fun, but thinking back on it I have no desire to watch it again, a lot just did not land for me.
